Open Letter to NERC and IKEDC on the Current Failure to Supply Electricity
To:
Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)
Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC)
We, the residents of River Valley Estate, Omole Estates, Ojodu Berger area, Ogba, and other affected communities, are writing to express our deep frustration and disappointment with the current state of electricity supply in our areas.
Despite the provisions of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) regulations, which mandate distribution companies to provide a minimum of 18 hours of electricity supply per day, we have been experiencing severe and prolonged power outages in our communities.
How can we describe a situation where many communities are being charged as 'Band A Customers' but supply has been constant failures. Is it NERC effective at all? But we cannot blame government for this sector any longer. Does NERC management team competent? When will the appropriate penalties and compensations be effective? Or NERC still not care at all?
Specifically, the NERC Order of April 2024, which outlines the standards for service delivery, has been consistently flouted by IKEDC in our areas.
We urge NERC to take immediate action to address this situation and ensure that IKEDC provides a stable and reliable electricity supply to our communities.
We also call on residents in other locations to share information about the state of electricity supply in their areas. Together, we can hold our electricity distribution companies accountable for their failure to provide adequate services.
Sincerely,
Prince Ola.
I urge all concerns with contact below to forward accordingly so that NERC & IKEDC can get necessary supports to serve us better:
