Our attention has been drawn to a publication by one Aderemi Agbebi, titled “Ipoti-Ekiti Indigenes Reject Relocation of Nigerian Army Formation to Ikere-Ekiti.” While we appreciate the platform for bringing attention to the concerns of Ipoti-Ekiti indigenes, it is imperative to clarify that the published report misrepresents the essence and intent of our original press release.
We wish to categorically state that the last paragraph of the press release, as reported by the press was distorted, leading to the dissemination of false information. This distortion has the potential to mislead the general public and misrepresent our position on the matter.
For clarity, we also wish to address claims or misconceptions regarding the military institution in question. At no point did Ipoti-Ekiti hijack any military institution from Aaye Ekiti. It is true that a military formation ( Brigade Headquarters) was sited in Aaye Ekiti, but this formation was entirely different from the 148 Battalion Barracks located in Ipoti-Ekiti, which was officially published in a government gazette as the permanent location for the battalion. It is important to note that during the period of this military formation in Ipoti Ekiti, the two communities met to avoid misconception and ensure harmonious relationship over the matter. The representatives of the two communities are alive to testify to this fact. This clarification should suffice to clear any ambiguity surrounding the matter.
We urge online journalists and media outlets to exercise due diligence, maintain professionalism and ensure meticulous attention to detail when reporting sensitive issues. Distortions of information, whether intentional or inadvertently can exacerbate tensions and undermine the credibility of the media.
For the avoidance of doubt, our original press release was a passionate appeal for equity, fairness and justice. It specifically called on the relevant authorities, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, to reverse the relocation of the 148 Battalion Nigerian Army Barracks back to Ipoti-Ekiti. At no point did we advocate for or imply anything outside the confines of these noble appeals.
We therefore implore the general public to disregard the version of a press release claiming that Ipoti Ekiti hijacked the military formation from Aaye. We remain committed to peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement to ensure justice and fairness for our community.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
